We all belong to a community which is bound together by common interests and purposes, whether rural or urban, past or present, and this has created a body of traditions and beliefs which are called folklore. It enables us to better understand ourselves and others.
The aim of this project is to explore seven related aspects of European folklore in order to make comparisons, and explore similarities and differences between countries. The seven aspects are food, superstitions, music, fairy tales and legends, festivities, medicine and religion.
• The aim is to create a united Europe through a better understanding amongst students and staff of each others’ traditions and cultures.
• Students will develop a sense of identity and self esteem, empathy, a commitment to social justice and equity and a respect for diversity.
• We are preparing students to be citizens of a multiracial, multicultural, multilingual society, in which awareness of, respect for and interest in other cultures are vital, and the ability to communicate with speakers of other languages is a much valued skill.
• Students will be involved in many activities such as producing recipe books, contributing to regular e-magazines, and illustrating their cultures through drama and musical performances during the reciprocal visits.
• The seven aspects of folklore will be researched simultaneously in all the partners schools which will enable the students to have discussions on the e-Twinning platform which we are going to use as a means of capturing the best work produced by the students.
• Students will be encouraged to work together in order to support less fortunate students around Europe through fund raising activities. The local and wider communities will be involved in all aspects of the project.
